HONORS

Golden Gate University Law Review, Published

Mr. Peterson began his career with this firm as a law clerk in 1982, and became a full-time lawyer after passing the State Bar of California in 1984. Since that time he has specialized in all aspects of workers’ compensation law, including claims of discrimination against employers [132a], Serious and Willful misconduct and subrogation.

His clients include both insured and self-insured employers with an emphasis on public agency clients, including cities, counties and school districts. In this sector, his experience enables him to negotiate global settlements involving workers’ compensation and retirement law issues under the Public Employee Retirement System (PERS), County Employee Retirement Law (CERL) and the State Teachers’ Retirement System (STRS). Where applicable, he provides continued representation of the employer in cases that proceed to the Disability Retirement Board, extending through trials at the administrative law judge level. By handling both the workers’ compensation and retirement law issues, Mr. Peterson’s clients avoid the cost of redundancy of engaging separate firms.

Mr. Peterson also does consulting work assisting a nationwide employer in evaluating their workers’ comp claims. This has proven effective in making sure the claims are handled properly and helping the evaluate the claims for settlement, regardless of jurisdiction.
